Description: Diet and nutrition, oral health and overall health have bidirectional relationships with one another. Preventative services like nutrition counseling can improve patient health care outcomes. Both dentist and Registered Dietitian Nutritionist learn about the role diet and nutrition can play in the prevention and management of chronic disease. Despite the longstanding connection between nutrition and oral health, there is limited documentation of successful collaborations between nutrition and oral health professionals. The purpose of this roundtable is to share current educational practices in both dental and nutrition programs and discuss ways to strengthen interprofessional education across all professions. This roundtable will share outcomes of current efforts supported by a predoctoral HRSA training grant (#D85HP45704) to integrate nutrition counseling in a dental school pediatric clinical setting, discuss challenges, and propose next steps for future collaborations between these two professions.
