Description: This presentation aims to outline the key elements of an innovative Advocacy and Community Health rotation designed for pediatric medical and dental residents. The two-week rotation is designed to deepen residents’ understanding of community issues, foster innovative problem-solving, and define their role as healthcare providers in effecting change. We will discuss resident expectations, showcase examples of pre-work exercises, and describe community rotation sites where residents gain direct experience with issues such as food insecurity, homelessness, SNAP shopping, and adverse childhood experiences. We will describe methods for engaging residents in legislative process and policy development. Additionally, we will present rotation outcomes such as residents’ evaluations and examples of residents’ published letters to the editor. Participants will be guided through steps for writing such letters.
