Addressing Non-Traumatic Dental Pain in Emergency Departments (ED) and Urgent Care Centers (UCC)

Session Description: The Wisconsin Dental Pain Protocol (WDPP) project was developed to provide a systematic approach to addressing the issues surrounding the presentation of Non-Traumatic Dental Pain (NTDP) in the ED and UCCs. WDPP provides the evidence-based diagnosis, treatment, case management, and alternatives to opioid prescribing for the management of dental pain and infection in the EDs and UCCs. The WDPP project helps to provide education to establish partnerships and referral systems within communities to assure that patients presenting with pain receive definitive care that can be adapted and implemented statewide and nationally. This national adaptation process of the WDPP will be demonstrated during the presentation by its current implementation and use by the US Indian Health Service. The specific learning objectives and mission goals of the WDPP project will be outlined in detail during the presentation.
