Session Description: States are conducting innovative activities to integrate oral health care in Long-Term Care (LTC) settings. This presentation highlights unique approaches at three states, funded under the Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) State Oral Health Workforce Activities program, to implement innovative programs to integrate oral health in LTC settings.

Missouri is utilizing Expanded Function Dental Assistants to create teledentistry teams to deliver disease control procedures, smart fillings, restorations, and remote supervision, as well as using a frailty instrument.

Rhode Island partnered with CareLink, a mobile dental program, to use teledentistry in LTC sites to extend the work of public health dental hygienists, increase interprofessional education, and expedite referrals.

Alaska utilizes a partner organization working in-person at LTC sites utilizing volunteer dentists and donated clinical space. Dental teams go in with needed equipment and supplies, however staffing remains a challenge to meet the need.
