Description: In 2002, Minnesota’s Critical Access Dental Provider Program (CAD) was established by the legislature to stabilize the state’s strained dental safety net. An add-on payment above the base rate is paid to practices serving significant numbers of Medicaid patients and meeting additional requirements. This supplement has helped the approximately 200 CAD practices to recruit and retain staff and expand dental care for Minnesota Health Care Programs enrollees (Medicaid and expansion). In 2024, the Association of Critical Access Dental Providers of Minnesota (CAD-Minnesota) was formed as the advocacy voice for this statewide network of critical access dental providers.
